Chris Gagne is Of Counsel to the firm. Chris’ practice focuses on high-value competitor-targeted patent preparation and prosecution, patent portfolio mining and evaluation for litigation, licensing, and divestures, evaluation of outside counsel work product for potential use in litigation, evidence of use searches, standards-related patent preparation and prosecution, and patent infringement and validity investigations.

In the course of almost thirty years of patent practice, Chris has acquired extensive experience in data center-related technologies, including, for example, in network platforms, cloud/edge computing, network protocols, packet processing, switching, routing, telecommunications, Internet of Things, microprocessor architecture, mobile platforms/devices, network applications, user interfaces, e-commerce, wireless technologies, operating system software, security, cryptography, streaming and multi-cast, manageability, and network storage.

Chris started as an associate in private practice law firms in Boston and New Hampshire, in both patent litigation and prosecution. Thereafter, he was employed as patent counsel at EMC Corporation in Massachusetts, in patent procurement and litigation-related analysis. After EMC Corporation, Chris was in-house at  Fortune 100 semiconductor Chip Company, where he was patent analysis team lead in a number of patent licensing, litigation, and purchase projects. While at the Company, Chris was also a patent portfolio manager in networking technologies. Thereafter, Chris was Senior Licensing Counsel at Research In Motion (Blackberry) Corporation, where he managed multi-country patent litigation and licensing matters, and regularly worked with senior management, including the Chief Executive Officers.

Prior to joining Essential Patents, Chris was the principal of his own solo practice in Texas. Chris is a proud U.S. Navy Veteran.
